Language: Acquisition, Multilingualism and Careers
Our world is a place where there is so much to be learned and acquired; it consists of many things that are far more than what we know that makes us feel intrigued and interested. Every now and then, new information comes up and people tend to take advantage of this by engaging in different modes of acquiring information like reading, communicating and attending classes.Education is imparting to an audience any information that is known by an expert or a person. It provides a person a good background on things and makes the person more knowledgeable about them. It helps the person develop a strategy that enables him to succeed in an endeavor. It molds many individuals to become a better person and increases the person’s self-esteem and becomes motivated to explore more.
Language is usually a mode of communication for people. It is very vital for people because it allows them to express themselves in an easy way. It enables the person to be immediately understood and allows verbal explanations about a certain concern. Though the language is generally spoken or produced through uttering words, language can also be projected through hand gestures and bodily movements such as that of sign language. Sign language, just like other variations of spoken language, seems difficult to learn but with patience, perseverance and practice; it just a piece of cake for the person. Just like any information people would want to know, language is something that is very interesting to learn and master most especially if it’s a language foreign to a person. It enables the person to interact with more individuals from different cultures that speak a foreign language and give the person the chance to explore ones native tongue. It also gives the person an edge over other individuals who know less because this provides the person a better perspective to things that are unfamiliar. To acquire such knowledge about language, one should be mentally prepared to face the challenges that will be experienced throughout the learning process. One should be willing to learn and accept own limitations to gain an understanding that everything cannot be learned in a blink of an eye. It should also be remembered that in order to be an expert, application of the learned information makes it easier for the person to remember and internalize, which means it should be used in daily conversations probably to those individuals who speak the same language.
There are many benefits that can be enjoyed when the person is multilingual or is knowledgeable and can speak several languages. For personal gain, a multilingual can make more friends and relate to other people wherever places he may be. In the workplace, one can work better with colleagues if the company is having diversity in staffing; it will increase the productivity of the company, since there is an association among the staff even though they speak a different language. A multilingual can also be an ambassador of the common good or become a better leader, since he can grasp what subordinates are saying and be their voice with his capability. Being a multilingual is an achievement that one should cherish since only a few are able to possess and master this kind of expertise.
A person that is educated about language can make a career out of it. The most common career these individuals can get involved into is being the one who imparts knowledge to the rookies, an educator. Imparting one's knowledge to beginners is a way of passing to future generations the glory of being an expert in language to promote continuity in the learning process. Even a bilingual can be an educator most especially if English is included in his expertise since this is our universal language and many individuals like the Chinese, Japanese and Koreans are very interested in learning the language. A person can also become an interpreter to those individuals who are unable to speak and understand a certain language. He will serve as the channel that bridges the gap among different persons that speak differently. Other careers include being a tour guide and a public servant which deals with people living from different nations. Being able to speak and understand many languages will provide many things to a person in whatever chosen career he plans getting into because of the persons broad ability to deal with different kinds of people.
